Stained glass installation experts.
Would it surprise you to hear that stained glass can last for centuries? There is a lot of antique stained glass still around today, still looking beautiful because of the installation methods that were originally employed.
But with today’s modern stained glass installation, Austin TX clients can be sure that their brand new stained glass windows will be even more durable than those of old. Stained Glass Austin has developed several installation methods designed to ensure that new stained glass can also last for centuries, and hopefully be more stronger and more durable than it ever was.
When it comes to stained glass installation, Austin TX customers frequently don’t give it a thought. Their focus is on the design, the way the new windows will beautify and enhance their homes. But we give quite a lot of thought to installation. One of the keys is to ensure that the finished stained glass panel is the exact size of the window or door where it will be installed. We do this by the use of a CAD software that makes a perfect pattern for our builders to follow.
When it comes time for the stained glass installation, our Austin TX local installers will assess the window and decided on the best possible installation methods. An enormous church installation would use different methods than a small residential sidelight or bathroom window.
Along with the size of the window, the location also makes a difference. Most of our stained glass is installed into a window using the original pane of glass to protect the stained glass from the elements. The stained glass is bonded to the original glass, ensuring no dirt or debris can get in between the two. Having the plain glass as well as the stained glass gives the window a greater thermal efficiency, as well as making it easy to clean on the exterior of the home, keeping the stained glass looking new and gorgeous for much longer. The plain pane of glass also protects the lead strips that hold the stained glass together from the damaging effects of moisture over time.
So what about stained glass in extremely moist places like bathrooms, showers, steam rooms, etc.? With our special custom stained glass installation, Austin TX customers have no worries on that score. Moisture doesn’t usually deteriorate glass, but it can badly effect the lead strips – known as caming – that hold the panel together. So if we need to do an installation in a very we place like a pool room or a shower window, we will add a second clear pane of glass to the inside. This makes the stained glass into the meat in the plain glass sandwich and protects it on both sides.
